easy come, easy go

i've been really into green smoothies for the past few months. i drink at least a nalgene a day. blend: three handfuls of spinach, two cups of water, a cup of frozen strawberries and one banana. they taste surprisingly divine and have cured my terrible knees. so much so that within the first three days of drinking them, i no longer feel any pain walking up the five flights to my apartment. magic, really.

though many smoothies means many trips to trader joe's, two or three times each week.

the cashier applied chapstick before acknowledging me, taking his sweet time as i stood there, and then said he couldn't live without it. he noticed my shopping bag from dior. he said that it was impressive, but i told him that it was not from shopping there, but rather acquired from work. i told him what i did when he asked. again, he seemed impressed. he said he was a photographer and that along with bagging groceries, he also worked at a (a very well-known) photo studio. i'm not really a waitress came to mind, though i wasn't judging. especially on that day. but now writing that seems a little judge-y. anyway, he asked me a few more questions that led me to believe that he thought i was super fancy. i looked fancy and i guess that's enough. but i was feeling particularly disgruntled and i thought that i was projecting a different image than what i would have liked and felt. i can't remember what exactly he asked but my response was, "well, i just spent my last 20 bucks on bananas and spinach, so..." and immediately he replied, "easy come, easy go." then he handed me my grocery bag and i left.

i am still trying to think of how that even applies to what we talked about, or general appearances, or whatever. i'm sure if i thought about it long enough, i'd figure out what he meant. but for now, i have just been taking it as general life advice.

spring day

the emilys and i went to brunch today at spitzer's (of course) and then strolled and strolled and shopped around soho. today was the first day of spring for me (as i have missed all of the other spring days being in my office) and it felt wonderful.

the usual. crispy eggs + spinach ricotta terrine

i must remind myself that i can not buy vintage clothing that looks like a costume. as pretty as it may look, i will never wear it.

fries + mayo

it used to be some sort of egg dish, but my current brunch staples are a plate of french fries (with mayo) and an endless cup of coffee. a special treat if the restaurant has cheese fries. divine.

dessert

my boyfriend and i go out for dessert more than any other meal. we both love sweet treats and i don't think i could date a man who didn't. so if not 16 handles, we're venturing a few blocks away to milk bar. everything here is divine, i would suggest that you try the entire menu. the crack pie is my favorite, but last night we tried the birthday cake truffles and well, be still my heart. and the compost cookies! and the milkshakes! the cereal-milk milkshake is so delicious. we tried the crack pie milkshake last night, but having the actual pie is better. love!

and though he claims he only indulges in his sweet tooth around me, i find it very hard to believe.

brrrr

my new apartment is thisclose to 16 handles. do-it-yourself frozen yogurt topped with candy/fruit/nuts/cereal that you pay for by the ounce. or by pound, beatrice! whenever i have friends over they always suggest going. and really, whenever the mood strikes, i'm there. needless to say, i get this tasty treat several times a week.

i usually go for the birthday cake frozen yogurt topped with cookie dough chunks, sprinkles, m&ms, sometimes gummy bears, graham crackers, chocolate sauce and almonds.

even in this cold weather, 16 handles is divine.

pizza

i promise you that artichoke is the best pizza in manhattan (must get a slice of the artichoke) and that you probably haven't tasted anything like it before (as much as it looks like a typical slice of pizza).

not to brag or anything

but the young and charming bread-man at blue ribbon bakery today, when i was buying a piece of the divine bacon and carmelized onion bread, gave me a cookie "on the house". isn't that sweet and sunny?

also, not to brag (kind of) but my last apartment was thirty feet from blue ribbon bakery.
