dreamcatcher

how long, do you suppose, does it take to know somebody, until they regularly appear in your dreams?

wishy

darling, don't you see the appeal of the floral embroidery sewn into the mattresses?

catalogos

combining my love for receiving mail and daft visuals, i sent away for about thirty mail order catalogs. quinceanera dresses, film memorabilia, furniture for XL living (yes), assorted kitsch, dance costumes, bridal favors. and though i placed my requests almost two weeks ago, i haven't received a single copy but now have an insane amount of spam in my email account.

escada margaretha ley

i found the bottle today at housing works on crosby street. regal, no?  empty. another jewel for my vanity.

polaroid

i went to a fragrance launch party last night at the gansevoort park avenue and they doled out polaroid cameras to have a bit of fun with.

brilliant!

$$

i found this on the sidewalk this morning on my way to work. it's amusing to think that kids-these-days are still doodling the same things that i did growing up. assuming this was drawn by a kid. assuming this is not a relic of 1997.

hearts, stars, money symbols, that big S. does anybody know the origin of the S?

inky

as an assistant editor, i leave my office with pen on my hands often. it's absolutely unavoidable. and while reading an article today, i had my trusty green pen open on my desk and, of course, i managed to get ink on my arm. when i went to wipe it off, i realized it was in the shape of a perfect smiley face. good omen!

JCC in NYC

little jess moved to the big apple last night.
and i was the very first guest in her sweet, sweet apartment (located a quick eight blocks away from mine).

we share a love of home decorating and spent some time last night going over furniture placement. she had a shelf that bothered us both. we moved it twice. and then what to place on it? she didn't want it to be purely ornamental. and after some thought, a solution was found.

functional/decorative
she even kept the vanity table i gave to her after i moved out of my college apartment (she is a year younger so she had another year left of school), and i would totally indian-give but it's white (a perfect match for her furniture) and i now have only dark wood.

the pretty pattern on her (feather-stuffed!) couch

the tiles in her hallway. yellow, white, pink, brown.

(i was stomping around in 4-inch heels all day and after ballet class, i couldn't bare to put them back on, so i spent the rest of the night grand-jeté-ing in my slippers.)

lovelovelove you, jess! welcome to new york!

lady fingers

britt brought me back a set of fake nails from a goody bag she received from an event she went to last night. i applied them right away (obviously).

for as long as i can remember, i have kept my nails super short. long nails don't seem functional or really hygienic, but now that i'm sporting my fancy "everlasting french" manicure, i'm kind of into it (for the morning, at least - but i'm stuck with these for the next seven or so days).

and for the record, i don't think i've had a french manicure since 2005. a bit of nostalgia. perhaps i should also get a spray tan, apply fake eyelashes and throw on a hot pink juicy couture velour hoodie.

street treat

the ol' new york giant pretzel.

million moving shapes

i thought the most beautiful thing in the world must be shadow, the million moving shapes and cul-de-sacs of shadow. there was shadow in bureau drawers and closets and suitcases, and shadow under houses and trees and stones, and shadow at the back of people's eyes and smiles, and shadow, miles and miles and miles of it, on the night side of the earth.
